About Rising Sun
Established in 1814, Rising Sun, Indiana has a long history supporting preservation and the arts. Our Main Street District, located on the Ohio River, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Pendleton Art Center and several artist-owned galleries offer two and three dimensional art exhibits. Shop for art, antiques, or perhaps take a Studio Tour to visit the home studios of local resident artists. Watch artisans build guitars or stop into Harps on Main to watch harps being made.
The Rising Sun Society of Artists is a juried artist group supported by the city, the Historic Downtown Program, and the Regional Foundation. Artists receive a monthly stipend and are active in arranging group exhibits and promotional opportunities.
Rising Sun’s Historic Downtown Program is a Member of the National Historic Trust Main Street Center and an award-winning member of the Indiana Main Street Association. The governor of Indiana has awarded Rising Sun the Governors Arts Award. The Indiana Main Street Program awarded Historic Downtown the Innovation Award for its “Arts as Education” concept, and the Southern Indiana Rural Development Projects Inc. awarded the City of Rising Sun with the Southern Indiana Community Legacy Award.
